The Alchemist

I came across this picture in Wikimedia Commons and thought it could fit in with this week's theme. The painting is by William F. Douglas  Lots of books in the background. .  When I see that many books, I wonder if either men would have read ALL of these books.....

Can't put a price on sunrises and sunsets

Such beauty to behold and it's all free.  I took this photo yesterday morning from the backdoor step.  The river is all covered with ice and snow, even though, it is still beautiful!!  I can only imagine what the sunrises will be like in the Spring and Summer.

A picture of the Opera House in Newcastle/Miramichi taken on one rainy evening in 2008.  This theatre was build in the early 1900's.  They are plays and movies. I used to go there as a child for Saturday afternoon matinees.  It had beautiful burgundy velvet curtains that used to open and down would come the screen. It was magical!  Later on, it turned out to be a dance club which housed the following pictures.  If you look closer at the top picture, there is a white spot over the windows.  That is where the owner dropped off to his death 6 or 7 years ago.  He was on the roof fixing something and fell off.  I know it is only a rain drop but there are no others in the picture, just at that spot.  Unfortunally, the Opera House burned to the ground in January, 2010.  Below are pictures of how it was decorated inside, it was like a museum, people from all over used to come just to walk through the 3 storeys of artifacts.

The beauty in one's own backyard....

Picture of the back yard overlooking the frozen river, I will attempt to take this exact picture in the summer when the leaves will be on the trees and the river will be open and flowing.
This is just by the back step, the barrel to the left I think housed some plants, I shall discover this in Spring!  So many other things to discover about this place when the Spring and Summer gets here.  We are expecting freezing rain tonight and tomorrow morning, will be a treachous drive into work.  I hope the rain doesn't take all this beautiful snow away!!

A snowy wintery scene

A far away shot as I am getting there.
A closer shot where I am "house sitting" for a year or so.  Behind the house lies the mighty Miramichi River!  I was living in a 2 bedroom apartment, so I took the plunge, packed up and moved in here, do you blame me?  I can hardly wait for Spring to come so I can play in the gardens.  I must admit though, this is a lovely winter shot of the house, it is beautiful and sunny here today.

SepiaSaturday 109

Oh, to be able to shrink myself and live in my dollhouse!!  I built this dollhouse from a kit in 2003. It was called the Bayberry cottage.  It took awhile, even though it was a kit, I had to do some cutting, window frames, door frames, etc.  The windows even go up and down!  I created the hardwood floors from coffee stir sticks, cut them all in odd sizes, glued them down, piece by piece, sanded and stained them.  I had fun decorating.  The last picture is a picture of part of my doll collection before I sold it.  The last picture of the three dolls are costumes I sewed for them.  I believe I still have the one dressed up as an Acadian girl.

In the picture of the livingroom, I photocopied my 3 children's graduation pictures and put them on the wall where along the stairs.  Queen Victoria's portrait is hanging in the kitchen.

Icy conditions

Well, for the second time this month, we have had snow, followed by mild weather and rain, then sub zero weather.  This causes everyone's driveway and yards to be like a skating rink.  We are expecting snow tonight and in the morning, followed again by rain and then cold weather, there is definitely a pattern  forming here...........On the UP side, it was beautiful and sunny today!!
