While in Lucerne, Swittzerland last Fall, our bus tour director, Emile took us on a horse buggy to a countryside up in the mountains. We came to this place where we were fed a lunch and beverages. I thought this old broom looked so quaint. I wish I could remember the name of the small village, it will come to me no doubt (around 3am some morning).....

This, in a way, is more then one person going somewhere, so far, I am still in theme......These people, believe it or not, were going on a fishing expedition up river from Miramichi, New Brunswick. Note the fancy dress of the ladies, I guess back then, you never dressed down even if it was to go fishing!
For more photos of all kinds of people, hats, no hats, socks, long pants, short pants, etc go to www.http://sepiasaturday.blogspot.com and have a wonderful weekend fellow sepians!!!

Dr. Louise Manny's Legacy
I chose this picture taken from the Facebook site "Old Pictures of Miramichi City and River", it belongs to Daniel Matchett's collection. It is a gathering of people, although not around a table. Instead of paper, there is a tape recorder. The lady with the white hat and flowery dress is Dr. Louise Manny from the Newcastle/Miramichi area. This would have been in the early '50's. She is visiting a native family, Chief John Augustine in Redbank, NB.
Dr. Manny went around recording songs of the area from mostly lumbermen, who sang them accapella. The tape recorder seen here was donated by her very dear friend Lord Beaverbrook who was also from the Newcastle part of Miramichi before he went on to England and became a cronie of Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
What Dr. Manny did was preserve these songs of our heritage. Many songs told of the life in the bush and on the river. She went on to start the Miramichi Folksong Festival which is still running after 53 years. There has been a couple of directors of the festival, Maize Mitchell and the present one, who has been director for a good many years, Susan Butler, whom I am proud to volunteer every year, the first week of August, at this wonderful function. Susan Butler has been awarded the Order of New Brunswick and the Order of Canada, we are very proud of her. She started her singing career on the very stage of the festival that Dr. Manny started. Dr. Louise Manny's dying words were."Don't let the festival die". She would be proud to know it is still going on long after she departed.

Mother Nature's White on White
On my way to the Goodie Shop, I stopped the car and took a few pictures of the heavy frost on the trees, what a breathtaking sight!! February 26, 2013.
This is how much frost was on the branches!!
Down main street in Miramichi, NB, Canada. Winter, I don't like shovelling snow, but love scenes like these!!

SepiaSaturday 165
Good Morning Everyone! Happy SepiaSaturday!
I went digging and came up with this photo. I believe she is my great grandmother Brideau. Mom is getting up in age and can't remember too much, but she thought she was the mother of her Mom. That would make her my great grandmother Brideau? I don't know, all I know is that she looks quite stern with her hair tightly knotted into a bun, her hands are pretty weather beaten too. I could only imagine the hardships in her life back then. Her forehead is pretty light compared to the bottom part of her face...well, there you have it, my contribution to (unknown) photos of yesteryear!!!
For more pictures or if you would like to pick up a relative or two, go to

Winter scenes
I couldn't resist taking a picture of the tree in my front yard. The snow has moderated, but the wind was starting to pick up, so I thought I had better get out and take this picture before the wind took all the snow off the branches.
Here, my mailbox is covered in snow, even a little blotch of snow on the flap itself. Winter does have its moments. For awhile, in winter, everyone's yard looks the same, all covered with snow.
As you can see, my car is red too, I like red, one of my favorite colors. Since it is not a work day, I will stay indoors, make a nice hot cup of tea, cozy up and watch a little "telly".....

Enjoying the Season of winter
Dad had to shovel all the snow back then, (no easy snowblowers to use then). That is my brother and I standing tall on the top of the (snow) mountain!
The neighborhood kids, we were all ages, the older ones took care of the little ones, we all got along fine. Good fresh air, lots of laughter!
Men corking barrels for smelts, in fact the last couple of weeks, it has been smelt fries dinner at many restaurants in the area, deep fried or pan fried, your choice, with the heads on or with the heads off, your choice!!
I took this picture while having breakfast at one of my favorite restaurant, The Goodie Shop. I thought it was so pretty with the snow just hanging on each branch.
For further snowy pictures, go to www. sepiasaturday.blogspot.com, but watch out, you may get into a snowball fight!!!
