Conducting the Meeting

I was up to the challenge, I warmed them up with a couple of jokes then it was clear sailing from then on.  Everyone enjoys a good laugh.   I even managed to give my speech about attending Estate Auctions,  I had a very good evaluation.  Looking forward to my next speech.  That one will be about using body language to get my message across.  Must put  my thinking cap on for that one!

Working Late

While working late tonight, I got hungry.  I went to the fridge in the board room, made some toast.  One piece of bread was smaller than the other, and so, burned, creating a bit of smoke.  This set off the alarm, which in turn brought 2 fire trucks to our door.  I was truly a "red"Rose as I showed them the remains of my burned toast which I opt to eat since I had caused such a commotion!!  Last year, I set off the alarm when I burned a chocolate cookie in the microwave, so I think I will start to eat out from now on.......of course, this is a two fold exercise, at least we know that the alarm truly works....AND quickly!!!

Since the theme for Sepia Saturday was Pubs, I didn't have any pictures relating to a pub, so I visited one today instead.  Matilda Murdoch, the 90 year old fiddler was there in a Jam Session.  Also, there was an accordian player named Dawn Harkin from Donegal, Ireland.  Very musical afternoon, from there, I went to a benefit for a man waiting for a liver transplant, there were literally hundreds there, and more music!!!  I had an enjoyable time.  When I got home I took a picture of the moon rising, it is supposed to look bigger tonight for some reason which escapes me now.............

My Uncle's Sugar Shack in Quebec

It is maple sugar time again!!  Cold nights and warm days, just perfect weather for the sap to run.  This is my Uncle Albert's sugar shack and the maple trees in his backyard in the Kamouraska County in Quebec.  It is complete with the little outhouse outback......

Yesterday I went to a Dessert theatre at a local church.  There was a 50/50 draw for a couple who had lost their son to leukemia a couple of weeks ago.  The person who won gave her winnings back to the couple.  This warmed my soul greatly.

Men's Suits from 1939

This was the closest I could come to men's suits that show up in AB's post.  It is from an old catalogue from Simpsons for Fall 1938 to Winter 1939.

King Edward VII

From my postcard collection.  I believe, aside from the stamp of Queen Victoria, that he is the only royalty I have in the collection.

I will have to be contend with looking at all the other blogs for pictures.  I have been trying for two days to post an image unsuccessfully.  When I browse, the image shows up, but the box with "Add Selected" is in a grey mode and does not allow me to click on it in order to post my image into my new post.  I have always managed to post pictures before now.  I even cleared my cookies, but to no avail..............

I am having trouble posting a picture this morning, will try again tomorrow.  Maybe the blog is experiencing bad weather such as we are experiencing here now........

For Sepia Saturday March 5

Wash day must have been time consuming back then.  I still appreciate my washer/dryer!!!!

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

I aced another speech at Toastmasters last night.  It was on Queen Victoria, events and some noteworthy people in her lifetime.  It was supposed to be only 5-7 minutes, but I was clocked at 10 minutes and 29 seconds!!  I even dressed up in one of my costumes as a Victorian Lady.

Onwards to my 4th speech now, I would like to complete the ten recommended speeches before the first of June.

Steamboat Alexandra

This steamboat travelled from Newcastle to Chatham, New Brunswick.  It was a work boat in the daytime, and an entertainment boat by night, with music and dancing, and just a wee bit of drink..........
