SepiaSaturday 165

Good Morning Everyone!  Happy SepiaSaturday!

I went digging and came up with this photo.  I believe she is my great grandmother Brideau.  Mom is getting up in age and can't remember too much, but she thought she was the mother of her Mom.  That would make her my great grandmother Brideau?  I don't know, all I know is that she looks quite stern with her hair tightly knotted into a bun, her hands are pretty weather beaten too. I could only imagine the hardships in her life back then.  Her forehead is pretty light compared to the bottom part of her face...well, there you have it, my contribution to (unknown) photos of yesteryear!!!

  1. I hope someday you'll be able to verify her identity, and I hope it is your great-grandmother.

  2. Brideau is an unusual but beautiful name. I hope the photo turns out to be one of her.

  3. I don't think she looks stern at all...that delightful smile gives her away. I hope you discover who she is. It would be delightful to have her added to your family photo tree.

  4. I also thought she had a very sweet smile on her face. Not stern.
So she must be a member of your family, don't you think?

  5. I am going to take Mom out of the Care Home Sunday and bring her here for meat pie lunch. Maybe her memory will be working better than. I am sure she is related to me, I just don't know which great grandmother she is. Wish me luck.

  6. She looks bright and interested in what is happening, alert and friendly. I'd like to meet her.

  7. Hi Rosie,
To me, she looks like a tough but likable lady with a sense of humour. What year do you think the photo would be if she was your great grandmother. Does she have similar facial features to your mother or grandmother?
    Good luck.

  9. It could be that she was in a shadow, or that she usually wore a bonnet. She looks like a very nice lady.

  10. In any case, she is a lovely woman by her smile I can just tell!

  11. Do let us know if the meat pie loosens tongues (and memories)!

  12. Perhaps you have some other photographs of her that you could compare it with. Good luck with your quest.

  13. Well, Mom was able to identify her as her grandmother, Elizabeth (Theriault) Brideau. I don't know how old she was, but she gave birth to my Mother's mom Marie Brideau on October 15, 1899. So there, mystery solved!! I asked Mom what kind of person she was, she said she was a good grandmother to her.

  14. I see determination and contentment, and a little humour.

Tanned face and hands suggest that she was an habitual hat wearer and worked outside.

Whilst she is so much leaner due to a poorer diet, I seem to think that you share a facial likeness.

  15. You tend to find that the earlier the photograph the sterner the sitters appear. This is mainly because photographic techniques were primitive and poses had to be held for long periods : and it is easier to hold a frown than a grin. Thank goodness for digital cameras.
