My grandfather was a saddler and harness maker, my father too until the motor car killed the trade.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great old buggy.
What a beautiful and colorful card. We have a Mennonite community near Corvallis, Oregon, on the back road, and I always felt safe driving through there.

We have a small community of Mennonites where I live, but they are more modern, and you rarely see any women in their prayer coverings. However, in Dayton, about 4 hours from here, there are old order Mennonites with beautiful farms. We used to take a drive out there on Sunday just to watch them race each other to church.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely interesting card. I don't know much about Memmonites (will have a Google) but I see they weren't stopping to buy paint even though it was on sale :-) Jo
ReplyDeleteI must admit, I always find it strange that a refusal to accept the modern always seems to have such a definite cut-off point (horse and carriages are OK but petrol engines are not).
ReplyDeleteI assume you know but just in case you don't: Mennonites are followers of a 16th century Frisian priest named Menno Simons. There are still quite a number of followers here.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely photo- I'd find it quite fun to hop on too!
ReplyDeleteI love the photo taken out of the window. And I'd love eat at the Goodie Shop.
