Reflections in the water

Friday, August 9, 2013

I chose this picture, it depicts a couple of men working at the construction of the Centennial Bridge in Chatham/Miramichi, built in 1967, thus the name of the bridge as we were celebrating two hundred years as a nation.  I think it is a staging, very dangerous as it was high up in the air.
This is the finished product, the Centennial Bridge, it is now going through some construction repairs as it is getting old.

  1. Oh my goodness. No way!
I wonder what the company's safety record was.

  5. The guys look rather unconcerned to be dangling so high above the water. BTW the bridge is gorgeous!

  6. Nice to see you here again! That does look rather a dangerous occupation doesn't it?

  7. That looks a wee bit like the Sydney Harbour Bridge. And yes, I am desperately looking for any sign of safety harnesses but can see none.

  8. What a beautiful bridge! Are you anywhere near Bear Island? My grandmother born there in 1885 or so...

  9. @Deb Gould--This is the Centennial Bridge located in Chatham/Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada. Where is Bear Island? We have a Beaubear Island near here, would that be it?

  10. There has to be a safety harness, doesn't there? It's difficult to make one out. I love steel bridges coming from an area where the Cleveland Bridge Company is based; they have been involved in many around the world.

  11. You do have to wonder about the steeliness of those who placed the girders. Every time I cross the Golden Gate Bridge and the fog and wind are blowing I try to imagine those who built it.

  12. A gorgeous design, and the guys seemed comfy!!
I wouldn't be, but some folks are impervious to heights.
    Good for them!!

  14. I wonder if they had heard of a workplace health and safety officer? They did have nerves of steel.

  15. I also thought that there were similarities to Sydney Harbour Bridge. Yes they were very brave. I wonder if they were paid danger money?
