My sepiasaturday, May 12th entry.

For Sepiasaturday, May 12th, I chose to feature Fraiche's kitchen (Vancouver, BC) where my son is doing his apprenticeship for Chef.  He was so busy in the kitchen, he didn't even notice I had taken his picture.  The following pictures are what I partook for lunch during my trip to BC.  Starting with the bite size rolls, I moved on to an arugula salad, grilled halibut, followed by a simply delicious dessert, creme brule.

For more delicious pictures, tune in to http://sepiasaturday.blogspot.com on or about May 12, 2012!!!

My first (but not last) visit to the West Coast, Vancouver, BC, Canada

Taken through the airplane window, the Canadian Rockies, what gigantic mountains!!

The object of my visit to Vancouver, my 18 month old grandaughter, Katie Rose!!!

This is called "rock balancing".  People gather rocks and try many before they will perfectly balance.  This picture was taken at Ambleside, Vancouver.

There was a display at the Museum of Vancouver called "Chic Fashions".  This was early and late 1920's and 1930's.  Beautiful gowns, (and there were many)!, I could have stayed there all day!!

I was thrilled beyond words when I spied this in the "History of Vancouver".  They are called white bucks and saddle shoes and I wore this kind when I was in elementary school in mid '50's.  I remember taking out the white shoe polish and making sure that the white was kept white, (except in a class photo where my whites didn't seem to be too white).

Of course, we visited the restaurant, "Fraiche" in West Vancouver where my son is doing his Chef apprenticeship.  Good food, good service!  I had an arugula salad followed by grilled halibut, and creme brule for dessert......yum yum.

While I was there, it was cherry blossom time, what a glorious sight  we witnessed as we went up and down streets!
Deep Cove in North Vancouver, I fell in love with this little cove, so picturesque and tranquil.

Of course, I took over 500 pictures, but thought I had better just post a few.  Besides, I will have to save some space for my next visit to the West Coast.

Vancouver BC, here I come

Well, I will finally travel futher than Toronto by plane, I am going to BC for a few days to visit with my son and his family.  Counting the sleeps.  Plane leaves bright and early Saturday morning.  That's the first big trip for me this year.  In the Fall, I am going to Paris for a week.  Too soon to count the sleeps for that.  Hope to have a day trip to London, England in that week!!  Know of any good pubs to go to?  My friend, Eleanor and I want to visit a good English Pub!!

Imagine...on the front lawn

Now, I know these birds as the Canada Geese.  They have chosen to stay awhile with me.  They come every morning and evening.  They feed off insects on the lawn, they get to swim around on the Miramichi River.  Life is certainly good for them as I don't want to hunt them, I just enjoy their visits everyday.  I have a feeling I will luck into alot of other nature episodes while I am housesitting here.  Different seasons bring on different sights.  This past winter saw alot of snowmobilers on the river.  This summer will see a lot of sailboats and fishing ships.   Maybe the occasional salmon jumping out of the water.  What a great opportunity for photographs!!

Smelt fishing on the Miramichi

This is from my Post Card collection.  It depicts a time when work was hard to get, so you worked at whatever came along.  In the winter months, mostly February and March, smelts were caught and in barrels and sold.  Even to today, those are the only two months this happens.  There smelt frys everywhere on the Miramichi, sometimes they are deep fried and sometimes grilled.  They are extremely little fish and very tasty.  A real treat since it only comes around once a year.  To see more work related pictures go to the 119th edition of  http://sepiasaturday.blogspot.com and have a great weekend everyone!!!

What kind of bird is this?

Tonight, I met a couple of ladies and we had supper at the "Welcome Back" chinese restaurant.  As we were enjoying our meal, one lady noticed this bird perched on the railing of the outdoors patio.  Can anyone tell me what kind of bird this is.  We thought it was either a falcon or hawk.

The Alchemist

I came across this picture in Wikimedia Commons and thought it could fit in with this week's theme. The painting is by William F. Douglas  Lots of books in the background. .  When I see that many books, I wonder if either men would have read ALL of these books.....
